Dhungana, first Speaker post-1990, champion of rights and democracy, dies

After the restoration of democracy in 1990, Damannath Dhungana, the first Speaker of the Assembly and a human rights defender who always stood up for justice against the anti-establishment forces, passed away on Sunday. He was 83.

Suffering from chronic liver problem, Dhungana was admitted to the Frontline Hospital in Baneshwar after suffering from breathing problems.
